Dougy |
Yes all of that is a part of this journey but not the important part. My son Douglas (AKA Dougy) was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism when he was seven years old. He was diagnosed with Sensory Integration Dysfunction (or Sensory Processing Disorder) at age 3.
This blog was created to share stories about the absolute hilarity of raising a my son (instead of focusing on the struggles and difficulties). In no way am I saying the diagnosis or disability is funny but I want emphasize how much I love my son and all of his quirkiness.
This blog was NOT created to inform about HFA (high functioning autism) or SPD (sensory processing disorder).
Dougy DOES amazing things everyday. It's never a dull moment in my house!
To give some popular references to what my son is like: Dougy is kind of like Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory or like Max from Parenthood.
He is one smart dude with a basket full of crazy reactions to normal things! Just like the TV characters, Dougy doesn’t get social things such as sarcasm, body language, eye contact, joking around, ect... He has a whole different way of looking at the world (it is often very entertaining). Please understand that no child on the spectrum is the same. These are my personal stories of my parenting journey. I want to share lighthearted funny things and also some stories of how difficult it really is to fit into the social world for my son! Most of the posts will be funny so please check back weekly for a new Dougy Does!
Stay tuned for the next entry that will give some insight on our journey to this point. If you don't want all the back story, skip the next post! Ha Ha There will be plenty of funny posts to come!
